The article discusses the activities of the NKVD of the USSR to ensure the security of the rear of the Red Army during the Great Patriotic War. The created special units were regiments for the protection of the rear of the active Red Army (subordinate to the departments for the protection of the rear of the fronts, which, in turn, were subordinate first to the Main Directorate of the Border Troops, then to the Directorate of Troops for the Protection of the Rear of the Active Army of the Main Directorate of the Internal Troops of the NKVD of the USSR, since 1943 – to the Main Directorate of the NKVD of the USSR for the Protection of the Rear of the Active Red Army) carried out measures to organize the front-line regime. the fight against espionage, sabotage, banditry in the rear of the army in the field, against looting and desertion, the elimination of small enemy units that found themselves in the rear of the Soviet troops, agent intelligence work, etc.
