The article examines the key features of the mechanism of committing violent crimes. It analyzes the stages of formation of criminal intent, motivation of the offender, choice of the victim and instrument of crime, as well as the dynamics of the development of a conflict situation preceding an act of violence. Particular attention is paid to psychological and social factors influencing the decision to commit a violent crime. In criminology, there are several well-known approaches to what should be understood by the mechanism of committing a crime. Understanding the content of the concept of "crime commission mechanism" is necessary for the uniform use of the conceptual framework, as well as for scientific developments in the field of investigation of certain types of crimes, including for the investigation of violent crimes of previous years.
