The article is devoted to revealing the essence of the concepts of «determination» and «causality», which are mistakenly used as identical in their meaning in today's criminological literature. The term «determination» first appeared in criminological sources in N.F. Kuznetsova's monograph «Problems of Criminological Determination» (1984). In today's apolitical environment, which has developed in all fields of science, this work has lost its relevance. The subject of modern criminology is the metaphysical personality of a person who has committed a crime. In this regard, the purpose of this article is to reveal the essence of the term «determination» and similar words such as «determinants» and «determine», which do not correspond to the content of modern criminology.
