The article discusses the modern methodological foundations of the formation of a private forensic methodology for investigating animal cruelty. Special attention is paid to the use of forensic knowledge about the mechanism of crime, the patterns of trace formation, typical investigative situations and versions. The current trends in the development of digital forensics and their impact on the proof process are analyzed. The necessity of improving the scientifically based methods of investigation of the category of crimes under consideration is substantiated.
