The article is devoted to the institution of probation in the Russian Federation, not only as an effective mechanism for providing social, legal, and other assistance to individuals in difficult life situations who are convicts or have been released from places of deprivation of liberty, but also as a key element in preventing the commission of repeated crimes. Based on a comparative legal analysis of the legal systems of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, as well as scientific works, the authors conclude that there are fragmented conditions for implementing measures similar to the Russian model of the institution of probation, as well as conditions for considering the possibility of introducing a systematic mechanism for providing assistance to a specific category of individuals. Taking into account the various probation models that exist in post-Soviet countries, as well as the Russian model that has proven to be effective, the authors emphasize the need for the legislator to choose a model that is compatible with the socio-economic and legal environment of the Republic of Belarus.
