The possibilities of using operational reference, forensic and reference-auxiliary records by the duty units of internal Affairs bodies in the process of solving a crime are investigated. In the course of the work, the author used the following methods: system analysis, content analy-sis of special literature, legislative and departmental normative legal acts. Based on the conducted research, it was found that the use of operational reference, forensic and reference and auxiliary records in the activities of duty units of internal Affairs bodies to solve a crime, allows you to expand information about the crime and its participants, since these records contain a large array of infor-mation related to the crime being solved.
