. In the Russian Federation, the dissemination of information is carried out freely in compliance with the requirements established by law. The criminal, administrative and civil legislation of the Russian Federation ensures the protection of the rights, honor and dignity of a citizen, and, in particular, the business reputation of internal affairs bodies. The considered factor of publicity of information dissemination is a qualifying feature in the organ-ization of the protection of honor, dignity and business reputation of employees of the internal affairs bodies of the Russian Federation. The article provides an analysis of law enforcement practice in this area, examines ways to determine whether the information reported about a person is defamatory, analyzes the content of statements, the communicative situation, the form of assessment and the fact of orientation to public dissemination to other persons. The dissemination of deliberately false information violates the interests of individuals, society and the state. The authors note the need for the correct qualification of the act as defamatory and the development of dispute resolution measures.
