The article examines the features of the use by criminals of such methods of countering the preliminary investigation as activities for the implementation of a false alibi, staging, as well as masking criminal activity and traces of the commission of a crime in criminal proceedings in simplified forms. At the same time, each of the simplified forms of production implies a confession of guilt by the sus-pect (accused), which causes a decrease in the activity of the investigator (inquirer) to check all pos-sible versions, including the version of selfincrimination
