The article is devoted to the criminal law analysis of sadistic crimes, i.e. crimes committed with ex-treme cruelty, as well as those expressed in ill-treatment. The main signs of such acts are named, their legal significance, and the importance of intent to commit a violent crime for its qualification as particularly cruel or harsh treatment is emphasized. Cruelty shows the attitude of the criminal not on-ly to the victim, but also to the basic universal values. Attention is drawn to the fact that the failure of the perpetrator to understand the motives of his sadistic actions does not give grounds not to con-sider them particularly cruel or cruel treatment.
