Abstract (English):
Having analyzed the geopolitical processes taking place in the post-Soviet space, the author identi-fies three stages of the territorial disintegration of the USSR: the primary one is the acquisition of state independence by the Republics of the USSR and the formation of internationally recognized states – post-Soviet republics; the secondary one is the proclamation of state independence by ad-ministrative-territorial entities that, with the collapse of the USSR, did not agree with the status of a subject within the post-Soviet republic; tertiary – the proclamation of state independence by adminis-trative-territorial entities that were part of the post-Soviet republic and did not agree with the current state policy of the post-Soviet republic. Special attention is paid to the states of tertiary disintegration – the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, which became part of the Russian Federation in 2022. The author defined this process as the gathering of the ancestral Russian territories redistributed between the union republics during the Soviet era.
