The article is devoted to an important issue concerning the introduction of other non-materialistic knowledge into the science of criminology. Criminologists participating in the formation of Soviet criminology, based on the methodology of the monistic teaching of Marxism in general and dialectical materialism in particular, groundlessly consider the use of religious knowledge, namely Christian anthropology, to be unacceptable. The author believes that materialistic criminology, which considers the personality of a criminal from narrow social positions as a set of social relations, cannot satisfy the current post-Soviet theory. Knowledge of the humanities of a religious nature can only expand the understanding of a person who has committed a crime
