The article deals with problematic legal issues of the practice of using firearms by employees of internal affairs bodies in the performance of official tasks, arising from the lack of an accurate definition of the use of firearms in legislative acts and educational materials. Some employees believe that the use of firearms is considered to be exclusively shooting from it. In order to eliminate the casuistry in the interpretation of the actions of law enforcement officers with firearms, the authors propose a definition that will allow employees to get a complete picture of the use of firearms in the performance of official tasks.
